Affordable Housing

Jonathan painting a wall in a home for re-housing a familyIt’s heartbreaking seeing our brothers and sisters of our community struggling to find permanenthousing. The housing crisis is complicated and layered, but there are steps I can take at the state level to help. For one, we need more affordable places to live. Stopping construction of densely
populated housing contracts hurts people trying to breakthrough into the renting market. We can relax zoning restrictions without skimping on safety. Housing vouchers andincreasing the minimum wage are also ways to get people into apartments and keep them from missing payments. Having experienced houselessness personally, and worked on solutions for the issue, I can attest that the NIMBY attitudes and complaints often stop or slow construction on housing that can really help people in need.
